Oral Rehabilitation Using Dental Implants after Reconstruction of Maxillectomy Defects with A Scapular Free Flap: A Case Report

چکیده

Restoring midfacial defects following the resection of head and neck tumors is difficult in terms achieving oral facial reconstruction rehabilitation. As surgical techniques for free tissue transfer develop, maxillary palatal defect becomes easier more practical, dental implant placement can be achieved using bone flaps. Scapular flaps have several advantages defects, including anatomical similarity suitability implants. Herein, we report case a 56-year-old patient who underwent partial maxillectomy squamous cell carcinoma right gingiva; were reconstructed scapular flap. Dental surgery with three implants was performed two years after an cancer surgery. Masticatory function gradually improved over approximately four months provisional prosthesis use. After confirming that adapted well to prosthesis, final installed adapting prosthesis.

Microvascular free flap reconstruction versus palatal obturation for maxillectomy defects.

BACKGROUND Palatal obturators and microvascular free flaps are both used to treat patients with maxillectomy defects, however, the optimal technique remains controversial. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 113 patients undergoing maxillectomy for cancer was performed. Seventy-three patients received an obturator and 40 patients were reconstructed with a free flap. RESULTS Speech intelligi...

Airway management after maxillectomy with free flap reconstruction.

BACKGROUND Maxillectomy defects require complex 3-dimensional reconstructions often best suited to microvascular free tissue transfer. Postoperative airway management during this procedure has little discussion in the literature and is often dictated by surgical dogma. The purpose of this article was to review our experience in order to evaluate the effect of airway management on perioperative ...

Heel reconstruction with free instep flap: a case report

INTRODUCTION Reconstruction of weight-bearing heel defects remains a challenge because of the unique characteristics of the plantar skin. Though numerous surgical reconstructive options have been reported, the instep flap represents an ideal option and seems to be more acceptable to patients than others. However, when the heel defect expands to the instep area, the ipsilateral instep is not ava...

Prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with mandibular resection prosthesis using mini dental implants (MDIs)--case report.

Physical disfigurement and functional impairments associated with facial trauma are a challenge to a prosthodontist, because even novel sophisticated surgical reconstructive techniques fail to provide adequate support for dental resection prosthesis. Therefore, different endosseous implants are often used as prosthesis-supporting elements. Manufacturers of dental implants have recently presente...
